Difficulty with Identifying Dates of Abuse

It is difficult for adults and children to assign time frames to past events. Children are especially challenged by this task because the ability to place events in time begins to develop at the age of 10. Unless the date of the incident is a core or important detail, it is unlikely to be remembered, or regarded as a peripheral detail. Children may require additional help from adults to estimate time frames by asking questions about location of residence or other people at the time the target incident occurred.
