Many children are asymptomatic-demonstrating no changes in behavior that indicate a reaction to a traumatic event. Many children are symptomatic, but no one symptom, or pattern of symptoms, is diagnostic of sexual abuse. Common symptoms include depression, anxiety, regressions in behavior, sleep disturbances, eating disorders, aggression, sexual misbehavior, somatic complaints, chronic health problems, and sexual dysfunction.
